This industry leading course will provide delegates with improved and refreshed knowledge and understanding on responsibilities and accountability for site safety.

The CITB Site Management Safety Training Scheme – SMSTS  has been designed for experienced Site Managers looking to enhance their knowledge on managing of health and safety and legal requirements when leading a construction site in the UK.

This is a Site Safety Plus (SSP) from the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) which brings benefits to site managers, supervisors, industry stakeholders and employers in the construction industry.

CITB Site Management Safety Training Scheme Course Overview

This training course is currently being delivered by a live Trainer over 5 consecutive days, meeting the minimum training required of 37.5 hours and includes:

  • Module 1 – Legal and Management
  • Module 2 – Health and Welfare
  • Module 3 – General Safety
  • Module 4 – High Risk Activities

At the end of the course you will have an understanding of:

  • Health and Safety law and how it applies to supervisors
  • Your supervisory responsibilities in controlling site safely
  • Risk assessments and the need for method statements
  • Effective site inductions, toolbox talks and method statement briefings
  • Monitoring site activities effectively
  • Timely intervention when bad practice is identified

Certification for this course is valid for 5 years. To remain certified in this area, you will need to take a refresher course before the expiry date on your certificate, otherwise the full course will need to be retaken.

We offer this through many trainers but mostly HSS, CST and ATS Training both remote and face to face.

This attracts a CITB Short Course Duration Grant at Tier 2 – 50%, with a value of £120.

Overview and changes to the current legislation affecting construction to include:

  • Fire on construction sites including Fire Safety Order
  • Construction waste and Site Waste Management

Theory Test Individual written test with explanation of pass requirements.

The examination paper consists of 25 questions, selected by CITB, covering all aspects of the course. Each exam paper has:

  • 18 multiple choice questions (each worth one mark)
  • 7 questions in multi-response or short written answer format (each worth two marks)

The exam pass mark is 81% (26 out of 32).

The exam lasts for 35 minutes and delegates are permitted to use the provided CITB publications for the last 15 minutes of the exam. Certification Delegates successfully completing the course will receive a CITB Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) certificate valid for five years.

Yes, once you complete all requirements. You get a temporary one then you need to download the when you receive an email from them.

What is a virtual classroom?

The course will be delivered via video conferencing using Microsoft Teams Virtual Classroom. This allows two-way communication, ensuring the course is interactive with delegates having the opportunity to ask questions. Each delegate in attendance must have a webcam and microphone, to provide evidence of identity and the ability to answer all examination questions.
